From Invisible to Discoverable
Your CDI Journey
Here's what happens when a business measures their Caidance Discovery Index (CDI, a 0–60 readiness score), closes the structural gaps using AI playbooks tuned to their industry, and stays ahead with weekly monitoring — all before buyers shift to asking ChatGPT for recommendations.
Illustrative example. The CDI math, band thresholds, and weekly health checks are real; the score-week-by-week journey shown below is a representative case based on what the methodology produces, not a single named customer.
A Typical CDI Journey
What Monitoring Checks Every Week
Five automated health signals run against your website every week. Here's what a real check looks like:
What Businesses Notice as Their CDI Climbs
Agent-Readable Content
Clearer copy, structured pricing, and explicit service descriptions mean AI agents can actually read and recommend your business.
Fewer Dropped Leads
Clearer conversion paths mean inquiries get answered faster and more consistently. The AI playbooks tuned to your industry — Home Services intake, Legal speed-to-consult, Healthcare HIPAA-safe booking — show you the exact tool stack to deploy.
Visible CDI Progress
A CDI that moves week over week. Not just a feeling that things are better — proof. The trend chart shows exactly where your readiness improved.
Your Website Score Is Only Half the Story
CDI measures what buyers and AI agents see from the outside. But behind every website is a stack of systems — CRM, ecommerce, accounting, operations — that either reinforce those signals or silently contradict them.
A CDI of 52 with an Alignment Score of 18 means buyers love your website — until their first invoice doesn't match your quote.
High CDI + low Alignment = a great front door with a messy back office. Both scores need to climb together.
Take the Alignment Assessment →How Findings Scale to Your Business Context
Each Alignment Review finding is calibrated to your declared industry, stack, revenue, and team size. Findings get more specific the more context you provide. Below are real examples of what the engine produces for different SMB profiles.
SMB-killer trifecta
The configuration that ends most small businesses growth potential: no source of truth + single point of failure + no data owner. Each individual gap is serious; the combination caps your Alignment Score at the Starter band regardless of how much operational effort you put in.
For a manufacturer, QuickBooks Online struggles with bills of materials, work orders, multi-stage assembly, and per-job profitability tracking. QBO can handle simple resale or service businesses, but manufacturing requires features QBO never built — meaningful BOM costing, work-in-process inventory, and revenue recognition for long-cycle projects need Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or Fishbowl + QBO.
You are paying Salesforce prices at a revenue level where the cost is hard to justify. Under $1M revenue, HubSpot Pro covers 90% of the same ground at a fraction of the cost — and your customer-record consistency issues are more likely a setup/discipline problem than a tool problem.
For a HIPAA-regulated practice, customer-facing data errors can become PHI incidents. Patients seeing wrong appointment times, incorrect billing details, or stale provider information can trigger compliance complaints — and OCR investigations start with patient complaints. Every visible data error is a potential audit trigger.
The engine combines 14 compound rules (3 stack-aware), 154 stack overlays, 97 calibrations across industry/size/industry×size dimensions, and drift monitoring — every finding tuned to your declared context. Each ships with time-to-deploy, named tools with pricing, 3-5 numbered setup steps, and a success metric.

What the AI advisor says along the way.
Each week, your Caidance advisor reads your CDI, health signals, and fix progress — then writes a brief note in plain English. Here's what the same business heard at each milestone:
“Your CDI came in at 11 (Starter band). Your top 3 priorities for the next 30 days are Fix #1, Fix #2, and Fix #5 — they have the highest CDI impact for your industry. Start with Fix #1; I'll walk you through it when you're ready.”
“Fix #1 verified. Fix #2 in progress. Your CDI moved +11 points — healthy velocity. One new health-check issue: page speed dropped to 3.4s. Recipe is in your toolkit under Fix #3.”
“You've crossed into Operator band. Fixes 7-10 are where most businesses plateau — don't skip the compliance auditor if you're in a regulated industry. It's the one that earns peace of mind on audit day.”
“Leader band. All health checks passing 4 weeks running. I'm shifting from daily fixes to quarterly drift auditing. Your CDI is stable. Revisit the playbook library every 90 days — AI tooling evolves.”
The advisor works in 3 modes — pre-sales before you buy, implementation on every fix page, performance advisor across your whole business.
Questions about CDI results
What is a Caidance Discovery Index (CDI) score?
A CDI is a 0-60 readiness score that measures how well a small or mid-size business is set up for AI-era buyer discovery. It rolls four structural layers — discovery, clarity, trust, and conversion paths — into a single number, with four named bands: Starter (0-15), Builder (16-30), Operator (31-45), and Leader (46-60). The framework is open and citable; the full methodology is at /cdi/.
Is this a real customer's results?
No — the 10-week journey shown on this page (CDI 11 to CDI 52) is an illustrative example based on what the Caidance methodology produces, not a single named customer. The CDI math, band thresholds, and weekly health checks are real and applied identically to every business that runs the assessment. As real customer results accumulate, this page will be supplemented with case studies that name the business and the specific outcomes.
How long does it take to move from Starter to Leader?
In the illustrative example above the business reaches Leader band (CDI 46-60) in 10 weeks. The real range varies by industry, starting score, and how fast the operator works through the 10 priority fixes. Businesses starting at Starter band who put a few hours per week into the toolkit typically reach Operator (31-45) in 4-6 weeks and Leader (46-60) in 10-14 weeks. Compliance-heavy industries (healthcare, legal, financial services) move slightly slower because the fixes include compliance review steps the methodology will not skip.
What does the weekly health check actually check?
Five automated health signals run against your website every week: uptime (whether the site responds and how fast), SSL certificate (validity and days until expiration), page speed (full-page load time against a 3-second target), SEO basics (presence and quality of title tag, meta description, and H1), and contact-form reachability (whether the form page returns 200 and the form itself is wired to a real endpoint). Each signal returns pass, warn, or fail with a short explanation written for a non-technical operator.
What does the AI advisor say at each stage of the journey?
Each week the Caidance advisor reads your current CDI, the five health signals, and your fix progress, then writes a brief plain-English note. At Week 0 (low CDI) the note focuses on the top 3 priority fixes for your specific industry. By Week 2 the note tracks fix velocity and flags any new health-check issues. By Week 6, when you cross into Operator band, the note shifts toward the harder fixes (7-10) and any compliance auditor steps your industry requires. By Week 10 (Leader band) the note moves from weekly action items to quarterly drift auditing — the CDI is stable, so the work becomes keeping it stable as AI tooling evolves.
What happens when my CDI plateaus?
Most plateaus happen at the Operator-to-Leader boundary (around CDI 45) because fixes 7-10 require deeper work: structured-data audits, compliance reviews, and content-quality improvements that take longer than the early structural fixes. The advisor specifically flags these as the moments where most businesses stop. The path through is to commit to the compliance auditor fix in particular if you are in a regulated industry (healthcare, legal, financial services, real estate, manufacturing with ITAR exposure, education) — it is the fix that earns peace of mind on audit day and is the most common one operators skip.
What is the difference between CDI and the Alignment Score?
CDI (Caidance Discovery Index) measures what buyers and AI agents see from the outside — discovery, clarity, trust, and conversion paths on your website. The Alignment Score measures what they cannot see: how well your business systems (CMS, CRM, ecommerce, accounting, warehouse, ERP) work together behind the scenes. A business can have a high CDI but a low Alignment Score if the website is strong but internal systems contradict each other — for example, pricing on the website that does not match pricing in the billing system, or customer data in the CRM that does not flow to the support platform. Both scores use the same 0-60 scale and four-band structure (Starter, Builder, Operator, Leader). The Alignment Review ($149 one-time) adds the Alignment Assessment.
